Summary

The inspirational sequel to 12 RULES FOR LIFE, which has sold over 5 million copies around the world - now in paperback

In 12 Rules for Life, acclaimed public thinker and clinical psychologist Jordan B。 Peterson offered an antidote to the chaos in our lives: eternal truths applied to modern anxieties。 His insights have helped millions of readers and resonated powerfully around the world。

Now in this long-awaited sequel, Peterson goes further, showing that part of life's meaning comes from reaching out into the domain beyond what we know, and adapting to an ever-transforming world。 While an excess of chaos threatens us with uncertainty, an excess of order leads to a lack of curiosity and creative vitality。 Beyond Order therefore calls on us to balance the two fundamental principles of reality - order and chaos - and reveals the profound meaning that can be found on the path that divides them。

In times of instability and suffering, Peterson reminds us that there are sources of strength on which we can all draw: insights borrowed from psychology, philosophy, and humanity's greatest myths and stories。 Drawing on the hard-won truths of ancient wisdom, as well as deeply personal lessons from his own life and clinical practice, Peterson offers twelve new principles to guide readers towards a more courageous, truthful and meaningful life。

Good! Bit too long & not as accessible as something this helpful could be, but worth reading!

A decent successor to Beyond Chaos。 Many of the same themes are carried forward and elaborated upon。 The book is a bit less dreary。 There is a bit less dwelling on the worst incidents in human history and a bit more humor: especially in the chapter on romance。 The emphasize on suffering is not completely gone as a major theme, however。I did not find a great deal that was brand new compared to Beyond Chaos。 Still just discussing existing themes was worth the time。 The new chapter on writing thing A decent successor to Beyond Chaos。 Many of the same themes are carried forward and elaborated upon。 The book is a bit less dreary。 There is a bit less dwelling on the worst incidents in human history and a bit more humor: especially in the chapter on romance。 The emphasize on suffering is not completely gone as a major theme, however。I did not find a great deal that was brand new compared to Beyond Chaos。 Still just discussing existing themes was worth the time。 The new chapter on writing things down is an elaboration of being precise in your speech from Beyond Chaos and, perhaps, a non-obvious extension。 Missing was the most scathing political commentary from Beyond Chaos。 There was not much in that book, but it was good and is missed。 This book seems to aim explicitly at moderation。I found the title a little odd given the book's content。 Most of the themes did not seem to be about escaping too much order。 They still mostly seemed to be strategies for dealing with too much chaos。 Peterson's recollections of the work with his clients are definitely the most engaging parts。 。。。more

Peterson did not disappoint with the follow up to “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos”。 While I preferred the previous book in some respects, this was still a very good book。 This contrast may result from the fact that I have already covered much of his material (e。g。, lecture series “Maps of Meaning”), which has lead me to embody and/or understand many of the things he sheds light on。 Accordingly, this decrease in new information may have lead to less “wow” moments, where everything sudden Peterson did not disappoint with the follow up to “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos”。 While I preferred the previous book in some respects, this was still a very good book。 This contrast may result from the fact that I have already covered much of his material (e。g。, lecture series “Maps of Meaning”), which has lead me to embody and/or understand many of the things he sheds light on。 Accordingly, this decrease in new information may have lead to less “wow” moments, where everything suddenly made sense。Furthermore, while the “rules” themselves are less memorable, Peterson’s anecdotes and illustrations provide the reader with less dense reading, which can be really nice at moments。 。。。more

Another great one for JBP。 You can put the rules of this book inside a niche in your heart。My critique is that at points, in typical fashion of Peterson he branches out from one solitary idea with many lines of arguments。 Sometimes it is almost hard for him to hold the reins of so many themes。 After this book, I have come to the realization that for Peterson the best form of media is in fact audio-video where he can stress his thoughts much better。

There is much to commend Dr。 Peterson on。 I was surprised how personal of a book it was。 As always, I appreciate his tireless pursuit of the truth。 As a Christian, I was interested to see how much he interacted with the Bible, his appreciation for it and understanding of the Christian tradition。 While I disagree with many of his applications, I respect him nonetheless。 Highly recommend for anyone trying to make sense of the Western world。 My favorite rule was: Plan and work diligently to maintai There is much to commend Dr。 Peterson on。 I was surprised how personal of a book it was。 As always, I appreciate his tireless pursuit of the truth。 As a Christian, I was interested to see how much he interacted with the Bible, his appreciation for it and understanding of the Christian tradition。 While I disagree with many of his applications, I respect him nonetheless。 Highly recommend for anyone trying to make sense of the Western world。 My favorite rule was: Plan and work diligently to maintain the romance in your relationship。 A practical chapter and discussion。 。。。more

Beyond Order: 12 More Rules For Life is the sequel to Peterson's must-read 12 Rules for life。 Though not quite as good as the former, the latter gets a solid 3。5 stars。 I listened to the audiobook because who doesn't like to hear Jordan ramble on。 I kept imagining his hands making the motion of the spidery thread as he veered off into nearly every deep subject imaginable。 One can only be impressed by his ability to chain thoughts in progress together in mostly coherent ways。 As a bottom-up think Beyond Order: 12 More Rules For Life is the sequel to Peterson's must-read 12 Rules for life。 Though not quite as good as the former, the latter gets a solid 3。5 stars。 I listened to the audiobook because who doesn't like to hear Jordan ramble on。 I kept imagining his hands making the motion of the spidery thread as he veered off into nearly every deep subject imaginable。 One can only be impressed by his ability to chain thoughts in progress together in mostly coherent ways。 As a bottom-up thinker, Peterson introduces new ways of looking at things。 That's his strength and appeal to me。 But being almost anti-ideological, his lack of top-down guidance leaves his ideas nebulous and unfinished。 But I learned a few things, and that made it worth reading/listening。 。。。more

Took a long time to read this。 Really is a very good book that combined with the first volume you could really sit down and use as a life guide to follow。Personally I’m going to take some of the rules more to heart than others。 Less focused on making one room in my home as beautiful as possible and more focused on imagining who I could be and aiming single-mindedly at that, working diligently to maintain romance in my relationship, not becoming resentful, deceitful or arrogant and being grateful Took a long time to read this。 Really is a very good book that combined with the first volume you could really sit down and use as a life guide to follow。Personally I’m going to take some of the rules more to heart than others。 Less focused on making one room in my home as beautiful as possible and more focused on imagining who I could be and aiming single-mindedly at that, working diligently to maintain romance in my relationship, not becoming resentful, deceitful or arrogant and being grateful in spite of suffering。 。。。more

Like Jordan B。 Peterson's last book, there is very little obvious fault I can find within this one。 There are the occasional things, like when he writes about diamonds and where they get their value - he does not mention the obvious thing of scarcity, but mostly this is an exceptional book。 I don't take too much issue with the political points he makes either because I agree with a lot, although not all。 What I find the best thing about Peterson is that he is a fresh voice, a person that can exp Like Jordan B。 Peterson's last book, there is very little obvious fault I can find within this one。 There are the occasional things, like when he writes about diamonds and where they get their value - he does not mention the obvious thing of scarcity, but mostly this is an exceptional book。 I don't take too much issue with the political points he makes either because I agree with a lot, although not all。 What I find the best thing about Peterson is that he is a fresh voice, a person that can explain difficult things clearly and in a way that I've not read many other places。 It's not a topic as limited by logic as maths, rather, psychology is a messy topic that Peterson helps put an order to。 The different chapters are unequal in how much they engaged me, but all are very good。 Some choices of material do seem a bit forced into the constraints of the "rule" on the basis that he knows lots about the topic and has written about it elsewhere - so I read and wonder what it did have to do with the topic, and at the end of the chapter, although he always winds back up to the rule it is not always a smooth transition。 Other times he uses lots of pages telling stories from his time as a psychologist, and even if they are interesting they tend to add little for the duration of the story takes。 Maybe they are good to have in order to differentiate the pace of the reading and make the chapters more separated - but I think the rules themselves do come a bit in the background often and I can not recount after reading the book which stories go with what rule。 Maybe that is just an artifact of the amount of psychological information that is present in the book。I learned a lot and got a lot to chew on while reading - and it was indeed a pleasure。 I do think the premise with the rules is not the best for a book, as I like more exploration of one topic in one book - as it makes the book something I can relate to one issue rather than twelve。 Hopefully, Peterson will come back and share his insight in more books in the future, and then not within the context of rules。 。。。more

In typical Jordan Peterson fashion, there was a lot depth to this book。 Ive always liked the way he approaches subjects, although I do not always agree with him。 To me there was no real heart or direction to this book。 I felt like I was laying on his couch in his office being lectured, which of course some would love, but unfortunately I only felt connected to a couple chapters which made this book a little slow for me。

Nikolay Ivanov

Not as good as the original 12 rules。 Perhaps rule X was the best one in here。

Florin Tiran

Quite good in some areas but kind of too broad and generic with most rules。

Peterson is an honest man。 Fiercely honest and authentic in his opinions。 It is not necessary for one to agree with his ideas to appreciate that he comes from a place of earnest sincerity。 Beyond Order will again make you appreciate his honest and sincere ideas。 Beyond Order is a bit too psycho-analytical for me。 The chapters sometimes are stretched to the point of ennui。 I prefer the first book over this one any day。

Patrick Stepanek

Having now read all of Jordans books to date, every reader should try some of his work out。 Anyone can relate to the situations he helps people navigate as one of the most accredited psychologists in the world。 This book in particular is proof of the refinery he has made on his fundamental principles of improving life through thinking。
